AHAPC In Action

The AHAPC is a communications conduit that stream-lines pipeline information to Yukon First Nation governments and helps them make informed decisions on the project. The AHAPC accomplishes that by fostering good relations with its members and partners, remaining neutral on the project and building on past successes and new initiatives.

The focus of the AHAPC is on the collection and analysis of information on the project, development of tools for communities to use in preparation for and participation in the project, and distribution of information to the communities.

  AHAPC together with assistance from Denali Pipeline has hired a youth outreach worker for the summer. The Outreach Project coordinator is Chantal Rondeau. She will be visiting member FN communities with an ear to finding out what youth are thinking about the proposed Alaska Highway Gas Pipeline. If you have any questions and/or have an event you feel AHAPC should be attending, please call her at 456-8332.

  March 02 and 03, 2010, three Alaska Highway Aboriginal Pipeline Coalition Board Members and two AHAPC staff members attended the Arctic Gas Syposium in Calgary, Alberta. The presenters represented the territorial governments, the industry and First Nations. The audience heard updates on the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline and the Alaska Highway Pipeline, the Open Seasons by Denali and TransCanada and the next phase on these projects. The industry and government experts presented  reports on the oil and gas taxation systems, the global energy needs and trends and the regulatory process. First Nation presenters spoke on relationship building with FNs, FN experiences with industry and developing businesses in the oil and gas sector. For more information click  here.

  The Alaska Highway Aboriginal Pipeline Coalition will be hosting an informative pipeline workshop for its member FNs along the pipeline corridor and other interested FN participants. The workshop will be featuring FN speakers who have had experiences with pipelines in Western Canada and Alaska. There will also be speakers from the industry and governments who have developed relationships and processes with FNs during the pipeline projects. You will hear FN experiences from the Planning Phase to the Operations Phase ,the lessons learned and how impacts were mitigated.
